Police Reveal Elderly Man Injured in Attempted Kidnapping in PIK
An elderly man with the initials GH, aged 70, was nearly a victim of kidnapping whilst doing his morning exercise in the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area, Penjaringan, North Jakarta. The victim suffered injuries and trauma as a result of the incident. “Just minor abrasions from falling during the struggle. There is trauma, but not too severe,” said the Criminal Investigation Unit Head of the Penjaringan Metropolitan Police, AKP Sampson Sosa Hutapea, when contacted by journalists on Sunday. AKP Sampson stated that the victim has been questioned. A total of six witnesses have been examined. “The victim and the witnesses have all been examined. Six witnesses have been examined,” he said. AKP Sampson said two suspected perpetrators have been identified. The police are currently still investigating the motive for the attempted kidnapping. “Two suspected perpetrators have been identified. The motive is still being investigated,” he stated. The incident occurred in May 2026, at around 06.55 West Indonesia Time. The event was recorded by CCTV cameras and went viral on social media. In the circulating CCTV footage, a car can be seen following the victim, who was taking his morning exercise near his home. The police investigated the case. The victim managed to fight back, causing the perpetrator’s attempt to force him into the car to fail. “The Penjaringan Metropolitan Police received a police report regarding an alleged attempted kidnapping and/or assault that occurred in the Pantai Indah Kapuk area,” said AKP Sampson Sosa Hutapea on Friday. The perpetrator’s actions were captured by CCTV located around the scene. The police received a report concerning the alleged attempted kidnapping and/or assault against the victim. Based on the initial investigation and the CCTV footage obtained by investigators, a car was seen following the victim, who was walking to exercise in the vicinity of his residence. Shortly thereafter, a man got out of the vehicle and immediately approached the victim. The perpetrator tried to force the victim into the car. The victim fought back, thereby escaping the kidnapping attempt. “The perpetrator tried to pull the victim to force him into the car. The victim resisted, so the perpetrator did not succeed in carrying out the kidnapping,” Sampson explained. In the CCTV footage, the victim and the perpetrator were involved in a struggle. Both were even seen falling onto the road during the tug-of-war. Despite his advanced age, the victim continued to resist and screamed for help. The victim’s shouting is thought to have panicked the perpetrator. The perpetrator eventually stopped his action and chose to flee the scene before successfully taking the victim. “The victim and the perpetrator struggled until they fell. Because the victim resisted and shouted, the perpetrator appeared frightened and then left the location,” said Sampson. The victim is a private sector employee who has never had any problems with any other party. The police said the victim did not know the perpetrators.
