Police reveal difficulties in investigating Ermanto Usman's death: few witnesses and CCTV footage

BEKASI, KOMPAS.com – Police are still investigating the death of Ermanto Usman (65), a retiree of the Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), at his home in Jatibening, Pondok Gede, Bekasi City. The Chief of Criminal Investigation at Bekasi City Metro Police, Police Commissioner Andi Muhammad Iqbal, said investigators face several obstacles in solving the case. One of them is the paucity of evidence at the scene. Police have checked surveillance cameras around the victim’s home. However, no footage exists that could help identify the suspect. ‘In the surrounding area, no one captured images of the suspected perpetrator. All CCTV faces only the yards of the houses,’ he said. Nevertheless, police are continuing to gather clues from the scene and from witnesses to uncover the case. ‘We are still working with the Metro Jaya regional police and Bareskrim of the National Police. We ask for your prayers that there will soon be a breakthrough in this case,’ Andi said. Earlier reports indicated that Ermanto Usman’s death left questions unanswered. In the incident, his wife, Pasmilawati (60), was also found in a critical condition. However, the family considers the incident more likely to be a homicide. At the time of discovery, Ermanto was lying on a bed, bleeding. Pasmilawati lay on the bedroom floor. Preliminary medical examinations indicated both suffered injuries from blows to the back of the head by a blunt object. ‘We hope our father’s case can be resolved and the perpetrator identified. Because, in our view, this points to a murder case,’ Fiandy A Putra told reporters on Tuesday (3/3/2026). The process of solving this case involves a joint team from Bekasi City Police, Polda Metro Jaya, and Bareskrim Polri.
