Police have revealed the cause of a ride-hailing driver identified as JF (57) damaging a vehicle on the JORR Toll Road in Pondok Pinang, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. JF allegedly damaged the car after being denied passage while attempting to overtake.

‘The cause is still under investigation. However, the suspect became angry after being denied the left lane while attempting to overtake, then approached the victim and carried out the damage,’ said Assistant Commissioner Pendi Wibisono, Head of Subunit 1 of the Mobile Brigade Subdirector within the Criminal Investigation Department of the Jakarta Regional Police, in a video statement to reporters on Sunday (31 May 2026).

JF struck the victim’s side mirror with a wheel wrench, causing damage to the mirror and scratches on the car’s body.

‘The victim’s side mirror fell off, with scratches on the car body and damage to the right-side mirror,’ he added.

Police previously arrested the suspect in Ciputat, South Tangerang. The investigation is ongoing.

‘The suspect was apprehended without resistance at his residence in Ciputat, South Tangerang, by the Operational Unit 1 of the Mobile Brigade Subdirector of the Jakarta Regional Police,’ said Senior Assistant Commissioner Resa Fiardi Marasabessy of the Mobile Brigade Subdirector, Jakarta Regional Police, as reported by Antara on Sunday (31 May).

The case originated from cyber patrols that discovered a viral video showing a driver’s anarchic actions towards another vehicle. Following the incident, the victim reported it to the Kebayoran Lama Police Station.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, 26 May, at approximately 7.22pm WIB. The victim was driving a minibus on the JORR Toll Road after entering via the Pondok Pinang Toll Gate.

Simultaneously, the suspect, driving a Daihatsu Sigra with licence plate B-1557-WIM, attempted to overtake the victim’s vehicle from the left lane. Due to the narrow lane, the suspect’s vehicle scraped the left side of the victim’s car.

Police seized several items of evidence, including a green short-sleeved shirt bearing the ‘GoCar’ logo, a black jacket, blue trousers, a smartphone, and the incident video recording. The suspect has been charged under Article 521 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) under Law No. 1 of 2023 concerning Property Damage Offences.
