Police Reveal Cause of Hours-Long Traffic Jam on Sukabumi Arterial Route
Police have revealed the cause of the severe traffic jam lasting up to 14 hours that occurred on the arterial route at the Cikidang intersection in Sukabumi Regency during the 2026 Lebaran return flow. The extreme road terrain was the main factor hindering traffic movement.
Sukabumi Police Traffic Unit Head AKP Abdurrohman Hidayat stated that congestion initially occurred in the Cikidang area. However, officers immediately deployed to the field to clear the traffic until early morning.
“For Cikidang, there was temporary congestion, but the Traffic Unit also immediately went out to carry out dispersal until early morning; alhamdulillah, it was monitored to be smooth,” said Hidayat when met at the Parungkuda Toll Gate on the Bocimi Toll Road, as reported by detikJabar on Tuesday (24/3/2026).
He explained that the main cause of the jam was triggered by the Cikidang route’s extremely steep incline. Several vehicles were reported to have difficulties while climbing, eventually stopping and causing long queues.
“The cause is that the Cikidang route itself has a very extreme uphill gradient, so several vehicles were found to have difficulties while climbing, stopping, and disrupting the following traffic flow down to the bottom,” he said.
Unlike Cikidang, traffic conditions at the Ratu intersection were claimed to be more controlled. According to him, that route is relatively wider, allowing it to accommodate the volume of passing vehicles.
“If it’s the Ratu intersection, the density flows quite well, busy but smooth, not like in Cikidang because the Ratu-Warung Kiara route is wider and better able to handle vehicles,” he stated.
