Jakarta, VIVA – Police have revealed the initial sequence of events leading to the assault on three petrol station employees in the Cipinang area, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, by a man claiming to be a security official.

The East Jakarta Metropolitan Police confirmed that the case is being handled with the utmost seriousness. The investigation is still ongoing to fully uncover the circumstances of the incident, which went viral on social media.

The Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit at the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dicky F Bachriel, explained the facts of the case. He said the incident began when the suspected perpetrator attempted to fill up with Pertalite fuel.

“The individual wanted to fill up with Pertalite but was refused service by the petrol station,” he said on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

The refusal, he explained, was not without reason. The barcode used was reportedly not registered to the vehicle the suspect was driving at the time.

“The licence plate did not match. It was not designated for that vehicle,” he said.

It is believed that the altercation stemming from this refusal escalated into the assault on the petrol station workers. However, police have not yet provided further details regarding the nature of the violence or the identity of the suspected perpetrator.

“Yes, this is still under investigation,” Dicky said.

It was previously reported that the assault case involving three petrol station employees in the Cipinang area, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, by a man claiming to be a security official, is now being handled seriously by police.

The Jakarta Metropolitan Police confirmed that an investigation into the man — who had claimed the vehicle he was driving belonged to a general — is currently underway. Together with the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police is tracing the identity of the man who claimed to be an official.

“The East Jakarta Police and the Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police are looking into the incident and the person who claimed to be an official,” said the Head of Public Relations at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.

For context, a man suspected of being a rogue official had claimed the vehicle he was driving belonged to a general, in connection with the alleged assault on a fuel station operator during the refuelling process at the Cipinang petrol station in Pulogadung, East Jakarta.

“He said, ‘Do you know whose barcode this is? This is a general’s barcode. Don’t you know this is a general’s barcode?’ He kept repeating that,” said Lukman Hakim (19), one of the petrol station operators who was a victim of the assault, in East Jakarta on Monday.
