Police Reveal BPK Member Haerul Saleh with 3 Others During House Fire

South Jakarta Police Chief I Putu Yuni Setiawan stated to reporters at the scene on Friday (8/4/2026) that preliminary witness accounts indicate three people were with him upstairs, but there were others downstairs.

Putu mentioned that the three other survivors were Haerul Saleh’s household assistants. However, the police are still probing the activities the victims were engaged in at the time.

“That’s why we’re still taking statements from the household assistants and witnesses. We’ll compile those statements and cross-check them with the evidence found at the location,” he added.

Additionally, the police are delving into what caused Haerul Saleh to become a victim while the other three survived. Currently, the crime scene processing is underway.

“That’s why we’re investigating further; the crime scene processing is being conducted upstairs,” he explained.

As is known, Haerul Saleh passed away in a house fire incident in Tanjung Barat, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. The fire was noticed by residents who saw smoke billowing from the roof of the house.

“Based on information from the local RT, black smoke was seen rising from the third floor of the burning house,” said the Head of Fire and Rescue Prevention (Gulkarmat) of South Jakarta, Asril Rizal, on Friday (8/5/2026).

The fire first broke out in the victim’s study on the fourth floor. South Jakarta Police Public Relations Chief AKP Joko Adi stated that Haerul Saleh was on the fourth floor during the incident. Haerul Saleh’s body was found deceased in his study during the fire.
