A man identified as G (18) has been named a suspect in the murder of his two-year-old nephew in Jatisampurna, Bekasi. Police revealed that G injured himself after killing the victim.

“From the investigation, the suspect stabbed himself in the chest and both sides of his mouth,” said Kompol Andi Muhammad Iqbal, Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of Bekasi City Metropolitan Police, to journalists on Friday (29 May 2026).

Andi stated that during the incident, G and the victim were alone in the house, with the victim’s grandmother – who also lived there – selling goods.

Based on witness statements, the child was frequently left alone by his grandmother while she worked. Typically, the child was with the suspect.

“On the day of the incident, only two people were present: the suspect and the victim. They were living in a rental property with the grandmother, but she usually went out to earn a living from 4pm until night,” he explained.

“Uncle’s Motive for Killing Child”

G told police he was disturbed while gaming, leading him to kill his nephew. His anger began when the child climbed onto his back.

“After directly questioning the suspect, he was playing games when the toddler climbed onto his back. The suspect felt disturbed and proceeded to stab the child,” said Kompol Andi.

He added that G took two knives from the kitchen to stab the victim. G also claimed to have heard voices, prompting him to kill his nephew.

“Besides being disturbed, the suspect also stated he heard voices and wanted to meet God immediately, according to his statement,” he said.

Currently, G is detained by Bekasi City Metropolitan Police. He faces charges under Article 80(3) of Law No. 35/2014 on Child Protection, alternatively Article 458 of the Criminal Code under Law No. 1/2023, with a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison or a Rp13 billion fine.
