Police residence rocked by explosion

Banda Aceh: A strong explosion rocked the official residence of the deputy chief of Aceh Police on Friday, leaving two injured.

Adj. Sr. Comr. Bagus Dwiyanto, chief of the detective unit at the provincial police, said the explosive might have been thrown from afar as the explosion occurred several meters from the structure.

The police deputy chief and his family were not at home when the explosion took place, he said.

Two domestic helpers suffered light injuries in the explosion.

During the past few months, the city had livened up at night. However, since the explosion the police have set up checkpoints, making the normally busy street deserted. --Antara
