Police rescue woman who fell from 15-metre bridge
Bayongbong Police Station, along with Bayongbong Community Health Centre medical staff and local residents, evacuated a woman found beneath the Sasak Besi Bridge in Simpang Village, Mulyasari Subdistrict, Bayongbong District, Garut Regency, West Java, on Monday (1/6).
The woman was discovered in an area approximately 15 metres deep after reportedly falling from the bridge. She was subsequently evacuated and taken to a healthcare facility for medical treatment.
Bayongbong Police Chief Iptu Mahmudi stated that the force received a report from the public about a woman near the Sasak Besi Bridge before she was found underneath.
According to witness accounts, the woman was seen standing at the edge of the bridge wearing a black sweater and jeans.
“A witness observed the woman standing at the edge of Sasak Besi Bridge. Upon passing by again, the witness still saw her. However, when approaching to check on her condition, she suddenly fell 15 metres below,” Mahmudi said.
Following the report, police officers, healthcare workers, and residents promptly proceeded to the scene to conduct search and rescue operations.

The evacuation process involved officers descending to the location. The victim was found alive and immediately transported to Bayongbong Community Health Centre for initial treatment.
“The victim is receiving intensive care and observation as further treatment is required. She has since been referred to Dr Slamet Garut Regional Hospital for more comprehensive medical care,” Mahmudi said.
In addition to evacuating the victim, officers secured a mobile phone found at the scene. As of now, the woman’s identity remains under investigation as no identification documents were found on her person.
Mahmudi added that police are continuing to investigate to determine the victim’s identity and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“We are still conducting further investigations as the victim’s identity is unknown. Locals do not recognise her. Currently, we are working to identify her as a crucial step to support further handling,” he said.
COMMUNITY ROLE
Police also urged the public to increase awareness regarding the psychological well-being of family members and the surrounding community. According to Mahmudi, community involvement is vital in preventing incidents that could endanger someone’s safety.
“We urge the public to be more attentive to the psychological conditions of family and neighbours and to promptly report to authorities if they encounter someone in need of assistance or showing signs of self-harm,” he concluded.
As of Monday evening, the victim remains under treatment at Dr Slamet Garut Regional Hospital, while police continue their investigation to uncover her identity and the full details of the incident.
