Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS (Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence), was diagnosed with burns covering 24 per cent of his body after becoming the victim of a caustic acid attack by unknown assailants in the Salemba area on the evening of 12 March.

Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations at the Jakarta Metro Police, revealed that Yunus remains under intensive medical care. “The victim is still receiving treatment, diagnosed with 24 per cent burns,” Budi stated.

He added that two individuals have been questioned as witnesses in the case, both being local residents who witnessed the incident. “Two witnesses have been questioned, local residents who saw and are aware of the incident,” Budi said.

KontraS Coordinator Dimas Bagus Arya disclosed details about the suspected perpetrators. The first suspect was wearing a white and blue combination shirt, dark trousers believed to be jeans, and a black helmet.

The second suspect, described as the passenger, was wearing a face cover or mask resembling a black buff that covered half the face, a dark blue shirt, and blue long trousers folded short and believed to be made of denim.

“One of the perpetrators then poured caustic acid towards the victim, hitting parts of his body. As a result of the attack, the victim immediately screamed in pain and dropped his motorcycle,” Dimas explained in a written statement.
