JAKARTA - A member of the Commission for Accelerating Police Reform (KPRP), Mahfud MD, has emphasised that the commission’s tasks have ended after handing over their work documents to President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (5/5/2026). “Essentially, there is no other work left. What else? It’s already 3,000 pages,” Mahfud said during a press conference in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (6/5/2026). Nevertheless, Mahfud mentioned that the President still wants to invite the committee back to continue discussions. Mahfud stressed that, in terms of their primary duties as an ad hoc commission, their work has been completed. However, possible follow-ups will be discussed in the next meeting with the President. “I don’t know what else later, if we meet the President, what else needs to be followed up from this, whether it requires us or some of us or what to develop further and how to control it, that might be in the next discussion,” Mahfud said. According to Mahfud, the Indonesian National Police will handle internal aspects, including drafting derivative regulations such as Police Chief Regulations (Perkap) and Police Regulations (Perpol). Meanwhile, the oversight of the reform remains at the Palace through the President’s assistant in charge of police reform.
