Police Reform Commission reveals reform recommendations that have been drafted
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Police Reform Acceleration Commission has disclosed the reform recommendations for the police that have been prepared and will be reported soon to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto. Chairman Jimly Asshiddiqie, at a press briefing at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta in the early hours of Friday, said that one of the recommendations is to revise internal regulations. “Around eight Perpol (Police Regulations) and 24 Perkap (Chief of Police Regulations) must be revised so that they can serve as the basis for ongoing internal reform in the long term,” he said. Jimly also revealed that matters related to Polri issues under the ministry will subsequently be reported to President Prabowo. “That point will be included. Then we just report it. So, we can’t disclose yet. Then we will report to the President. There are several things that we need him to decide,” he said. However, he clarified that the phrase ‘under’ is incorrect because all institutions are under the President, including the TNI. He said the correct phrasing should relate to inter-agency coordination. In addition, he added, another issue formulated was the technical appointment of the Kapolri up to deployment of members outside the police structure. “Including the issue of appointing the Kapolri, should it require DPR approval or not? These issues have appeared in public, so we discussed them. There are many things we have formulated, but we cannot disclose yet,” he said. Furthermore, Jimly said the Commission’s evaluation and studies are intended to be reported directly to President Prabowo before Eid al-Fitr. He noted that the exact date is still being arranged by the State Secretary (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi and the Cabinet Secretary (Seskab) Teddy Indra Wijaya.
