JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Indonesian Police recorded 173 traffic accidents during the monitoring period of the 2026 Eid exodus, from Tuesday (17/3/2026) at 18:00 WIB until Wednesday (18/3/2026) at 06:00 WIB. From that number, 29 people were reported dead. “In this period, the number of traffic accidents reached 173 incidents. From that number, 29 people died, 70 people suffered serious injuries, and 505 people had minor injuries. Material losses are estimated to exceed Rp 1 billion,” said the Spokesperson for Operation Ketupat 2026, Commissioner Marupa Sagala, in his statement on Wednesday (18/3/2026). As many as 142,000 vehicles passed through the four main toll gates, an increase of about 45 percent compared to normal conditions. “This shows that the 2026 Eid exodus is starting to experience a quite significant increase,” Marupa said.
