Police receive vehicle gifts

JAKARTA (JP): Automotive company PT Indomobil donated on Friday two patrol vehicles to the traffic directorate of the National Police.

Indomobil's president Subronto Laras officiated at the handover of the cars to Brig. Gen. Suparto, head of the traffic directorate in Jakarta.

Suparto said the two Suzuki Karimun cars would be used to patrol major thoroughfares and toll roads by officers of the traffic accident investigation team.

"The team is in charge of helping victims and investigating accidents before being handled by officers of the local police precincts," Suparto told Antara.

Subronto said that besides facilitating police work, the assistance would also enable a try-out for the vehicles powered by 1000cc machines.

Suzuki Karimun cars are the latest model designed by Indomobil.

"We want to know about their capability and efficiency," he said, adding that the cars had been designed since 1995, with only 70 units manufactured so far. (hhr)
