Police ready to question Ba'asyir
JAKARTA: National Police Chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar said on Wednesday the questioning of Muslim cleric Abu Bakar Ba'asyir over his alleged involvement in terrorist activities would take place soon.
"I have received the report from the investigating team that we have enough evidence to question Ba'asyir. He has to come and undergo questioning," Da'i said.
No specific date, however, has been set for the interrogation.
Da'i said the probe into Ba'asyir's involvement in terrorist activities had gone through a long process.
"To determine his legal status, we have to question him and get a statement from him," the police chief said.
Ba'asyir is serving an 18-month prison term for immigration offenses, but so far his alleged links with terrorist organizations have not been proven. --JP
