Police Raid Warehouse of Illegal Chinese Phones, Seize 76,756 iPhone and Android Units

The Indonesian National Police’s Task Force for Law Enforcement on Smuggling conducted a search at the office of PT TSL located in Gedangan, Sidoarjo, East Java, on Tuesday (21/4/2026). This action follows the exposure of a syndicate importing illegal smartphones of various brands directly from China. “Regarding the forced search carried out today by the Smuggling Law Enforcement Task Force that harms state assets at the office of PT TSL,” said Director of Special Criminal Acts, Brigadier General Pol Ade Safri Simanjuntak in an official statement, as reported by Kompas.com. From the six locations, the police seized a staggering amount of evidence. In total, 76,756 units of goods were secured, with an overall value of Rp235.08 billion. In detail, the seized items were dominated by Apple products, namely 56,557 iPhone units with an estimated value of Rp225.2 billion. The remainder consisted of 1,625 Android phones worth Rp5.38 billion, as well as 18,574 units of mobile phone spare parts. This practice was carried out using classic customs crime methods, namely under-invoicing (falsifying invoice values to be lower), undeclaring (not reporting the actual goods), and under-accounting (manipulating records). Based on witness examinations, shipping documents, statements from transporters, and traces of electronic evidence, the police have named two suspects. The first suspect, DCP alias P, acted as the importer. He was known to bring in gadgets from China in used or not-new condition, and without Indonesian National Standard (SNI) certification. The second suspect, SJ, acted as the distributor to circulate the illegal gadgets in the customs territory of the Republic of Indonesia. The police affirm their commitment to thoroughly investigating this case professionally and transparently. Supervision at all entry points for goods will be tightened to prevent leakage of state revenue, while safeguarding national economic resilience from the onslaught of illegal technology products.
