The Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) of the Indonesian National Police conducted a search at the office of PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk. (WIKA), located on Jalan D.I. Panjaitan Kav 9-10, East Jakarta. The search by the investigating team is part of efforts to find and collect evidence relevant to the alleged corruption in the development and modernisation of the Assembagoes Sugar Mill in Situbondo, East Java, under PTPN XI during the 2016-2022 period. The state audit board (BPK) has reportedly calculated state financial losses in this suspected corruption case at roughly more than Rp 645 billion, according to Police Senior Commissioner Gunawan, head of the investigative team. Gunawan noted the project implementer was a joint operation comprising WIKA, PT Barata Indonesia, and PT Multinas Sejahtera Indonesia, leading the unit to also search the offices of Barata Indonesia and Multinas Sejahtera Indonesia in Gresik and Surabaya. The current searches aim to gather additional evidence which will be analysed to strengthen the prosecution’s case, he stated. The unit will subsequently name parties who will be held criminally responsible, supported by strong evidence, he added, stressing the aim to expedite the investigation to avoid protracted proceedings and provide legal certainty, justice, and benefit. Responding to the police action, WIKA, as part of the Assembagoes Sugar Mill development and modernisation consortium, said it respects the ongoing legal process and defers entirely to law enforcement officials in accordance with applicable regulations. The company maintains it upholds good governance principles in all business processes and confirms its commitment to cooperate and be transparent so the process can proceed professionally.
