The Jakarta Metro Police’s Narcotics Directorate raided Kampung Berlan in Matraman, East Jakarta, on Tuesday (27 October).

Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Director Senior Commissioner Bismo Teguh Prakoso said the operation involved personnel from the Jakarta Metro Police, the Regional Military Command (Kodam), the Indonesian Military Police, East Jakarta Metro Police, the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) and the police’s medical and health division.

“We detained eight people at the location. We have conducted urine tests: seven tested positive and one negative,” Bismo told reporters, as quoted on Thursday (29 October).

Bismo said the joint team targeted 12 people during the operation, which ran from morning until midday.

Officers also found several types of narcotics, including methamphetamine, cannabis and ketamine.

“There was methamphetamine, cannabis and ketamine. Officers will weigh them later,” Bismo said.

The eight people arrested have since been handed over to East Jakarta Metro Police. Bismo said investigators were still examining each person’s role as part of the inquiry and investigation.

He added that the operation was part of efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking, including taking action against dealers and helping drug users recover.

“The people arrested are being investigated by East Jakarta Metro Police, and their cases are being examined further,” he said.
