The Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Directorate raided a drug hotspot in the Permata Complex in Cengkareng, West Jakarta—commonly known as Kampung Ambon—on Sunday night (25 October).

Jakarta Metro Police Narcotics Directorate chief Bismo Teguh Prakoso said the raid was part of an intensified routine operation (KRYD) to prevent and combat drug abuse.

“The KRYD operation followed reports and complaints from members of the public about suspected ongoing illicit narcotics trafficking in the Permata Complex area (Kampung Ambon),” Bismo said in a statement on Monday (26 October).

Bismo said 130 officers were deployed for the operation. They were divided into two teams to search the area.

“During the operation, both teams searched and inspected a number of targeted locations,” he said.

Bismo said the operation resulted in the arrest of seven people: RT, 28; MP, 34; YK, 24; UK, 45; VD, 30; BS, 23; and P, 23.

The seven were then given urine tests. Six tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine or cannabis.

The remaining person, identified as P, tested negative. However, officers found synthetic tobacco in P’s possession.

Police also seized a plastic packet containing 0.70 grammes of synthetic tobacco, 15 bladed weapons, a catapult, a bottle of alcoholic drink and a spiked baton.

“The people detained and the evidence have been taken in for further handling and examination in accordance with applicable procedures,” Bismo said.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations chief Budi Hermanto urged the public to report suspected drug abuse or trafficking in their neighbourhoods.

“In the spirit of ‘Police and the Community Together’, we urge people not to hesitate to share information if they know of suspected drug abuse or trafficking. Information can be reported to the nearest police station or through the 110 Police Service,” he said.
