Police Raid Daycare in Jogja's Umbulharjo Suspected of Child Abuse
News of a daycare centre in Umbulharjo, Yogyakarta, being raided by police has gone viral on social media. The incident came to light after allegations of abuse against the children entrusted to the facility.
The news was shared via the Instagram account @merapi_uncover. In its post, it was stated that the location of the daycare suspected of abuse had been cordoned off with police tape.
“[Breaking News] Allegations of Child Abuse at a Daycare in the Jogja Area Emerge, Police Set Up Police Line. The social media world is abuzz with allegations of a child abuse case at a childcare facility (daycare) in Yogyakarta. The case went viral after several parents posted testimonies and evidence of violence experienced by their children on digital platforms,” wrote the account, as seen by detikJogja on Saturday (25/4/2026).
According to parents’ testimonies, continued the post, the children allegedly received inappropriate treatment from the daycare staff.
“Based on posts from the social media platform Threads, parents were devastated after reading reviews on Google Maps that revealed the dark side of the place. Reports circulating mention cruel acts against the children, from being tied up, dragged, to being beaten,” stated the post.
Furthermore, after the news was followed up by the police, the daycare management allegedly tried to cover digital tracks by deleting negative reviews on Google Maps.
“The daycare location has reportedly been cordoned off with a police line (police line) for further investigation purposes. This news is reinforced by recent reviews on Google Maps mentioning a raid by the Jogja Police Resort team. Nevertheless, some netizens regret the management’s attitude, which is seen as attempting to cover tracks by deleting negative reviews or closing their social media accounts amid the ongoing legal process,” it concluded.
Police Confirmation
When asked for confirmation, the Head of Criminal Investigation at Jogja Police Resort, Kompol Riski Adrian, confirmed the raid.
“It is true, the Criminal Investigation Unit of Jogja Police Resort this afternoon (Friday) just conducted a raid on a childcare facility in the Umbulharjo area,” said Adrian when contacted by reporters on Saturday (25/4/2026).
Adrian stated that his side suspects certain daycare managers of committing acts of abuse against the entrusted children. Currently, the case is still under investigation.
“It is strongly suspected of committing a criminal act of treating a child discriminatorily or placing, allowing, involving, or ordering the involvement of a child in situations of improper treatment and neglect or violence against a child,” he concluded.
