Police Raid Cipete Shophouse in Major Graft Probe, Seize Documents and Computers
Polda Metro Jaya has raided a three-storey shophouse located in the Cipete area of South Jakarta. This is the thirteenth location searched by police in connection with alleged corruption cases.
“This search at the thirteenth point is part of a series of previous investigative activities. As we witness together, a search is still being carried out at one of the shophouses in connection with a corruption offence handled by a joint investigation between the Anti-Corruption Task Force (Kortas Tipidkor) and Polda Metro Jaya,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, to reporters at the scene in the early hours of Friday (10/7/2026).
Budi said the raid resulted from developments following witness examinations the previous day. According to him, other locations may still be searched.
“From the results of witness statements and the case review, there are still developments at several other points. We will update you all on each of the activities carried out, so this is very transparent,” he added.
Budi did not specify what business occupies the shophouse being searched. Police also forced open the three-storey shophouse by cutting through a chain using a grinder.
“First we cut the chain, then opened the door. We can see the shophouse has three floors, and we opened the access door to the third floor,” he explained.
Budi added that among the items secured by investigators were a number of documents and computers. He could not yet confirm what documents were seized.
“We can see many documents secured by the investigators, including computers and various other items. We have not yet been able to identify and inventory everything that has been secured,” he said.
For information, Polda Metro Jaya had previously carried out searches at several locations on Wednesday (8/7). Among them, police searched a money changer and the de’Clan Signature café in the Cipete area of South Jakarta, as well as a house in the Bogor area of West Java.
Police seized a number of items of evidence during the searches, ranging from gold bars to foreign currency worth billions of rupiah.
The series of raids relates to three alleged corruption cases. The National Police’s Anti-Corruption Task Force Chief, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, said the investigations are being handled jointly with the Polda Metro Jaya Directorate of Special Crimes.
He said the cases involve alleged corruption in coal procurement that triggered blackouts, the ASABRI case, and the settlement of a debt owed by PT CBS to PT KNI, a subsidiary of the state-owned steelmaker Krakatau Steel.
Presidential attention
Separately, Budi Hermanto emphasised that investigations into alleged corruption at PLN, Asabri, and Krakatau Steel have the attention of President Prabowo Subianto.
“This has the attention of the President regarding these alleged corruption cases, which the police are prioritising for disclosure and investigation. This series of searches is part of the investigation process to find and gather evidence to support the inquiry,” said Budi Hermanto after the search at Café de’Clan, Cipete, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (8/7).
Budi said the searches form part of efforts to uncover alleged corruption in coal procurement at PLN that triggered blackouts in Sumatra some time ago, as well as the Asabri and Krakatau Steel cases. The corruption cases under investigation encompass bribery, gratuities, and money laundering.
“The Anti-Corruption Task Force, together with Polda Metro Jaya, is investigating alleged corruption cases involving bribery, gratuities, and money laundering. Several locations are being searched simultaneously, including the current locations at Café de’Clan and Coin Money Changer. These relate to the alleged corruption in the PLN coal blackouts, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel,” he said.
