Police Raid Batam Nightclub, Seize Safe Containing Ecstasy
A nightclub in Batam, Kepulauan Riau, was raided by a joint team from the Indonesian National Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (Bareskrim). During the operation, officers seized a large safe. “The contents are ecstasy,” said the Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim, Brigadier General Eko Hadi Santoso, in a statement to reporters on Monday. However, Eko did not specify the exact quantity of ecstasy pills found in the safe. He stated that officers are currently cataloguing the evidence seized during the operation. The raid was carried out by a joint team from Sub-Directorate IV of the Narcotics Crime Directorate of Bareskrim and the Bareskrim NIC Task Force, led by Senior Commissioner Handik Zusen and Senior Commissioner Kevin Leleury, along with Assistant Commissioner Titus Yudho Ully, in the early hours of Monday at around 1:00 AM local time. The action followed up on information regarding suspected drug trafficking at the HH Club Planet nightclub. During the operation, officers detained 53 individuals, comprising both suspects and witnesses. Brigadier General Eko Hadi has not yet detailed the chronology or the full list of evidence seized in the raid. “Further information will be conveyed by the Director of Narcotics Crime at Bareskrim after the examination of the suspects and witnesses is completed,” he concluded.
