Police Question Two Witnesses in Acid Attack on KontraS Activist
Police are continuing their investigation into the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, carried out by unknown assailants in the Senen area of Central Jakarta. Two witnesses have been questioned in connection with the incident.
This was revealed by Metropolitan Police Public Relations Chief Brigadier General Budi Hermanto. He initially explained the victim’s current condition whilst receiving treatment.
“The victim is still receiving treatment, diagnosed with 24 per cent burn injuries,” said Brigadier General Budi to journalists on Saturday (14 March 2026).
Furthermore, Brigadier General Budi provided updates on the investigation into the incident. He stated that his office had questioned several individuals related to the acid attack on the KontraS activist.
“We have questioned two witnesses so far. They are residents in the area who witnessed and had knowledge of the incident,” said Brigadier General Budi.
Details of the Attack on KontraS Activist
CCTV footage that has circulated shows that the suspected perpetrators were two men riding a motorcycle who passed through the location. Both of them turned their motorcycle around until they encountered the victim.
The victim, who was riding a motorcycle at the time, was doused with acid by the perpetrators. Immediately the victim felt a burning sensation and dropped his motorcycle on the roadside, screaming hysterically.
“Ah… ah… ah… it burns… it burns… it burns. Acid… acid. My God, help me, acid… acid… acid,” screamed the victim, as seen in the CCTV footage on Friday (13 March).
The victim immediately removed his clothing. His shirt was torn and his body blistered from the acid dousing.
The victim’s screams immediately attracted the attention of residents. People came to help the victim.
“LBH, is it? LBH?” asked a resident.
“KontraS,” replied the victim.
