Police Question Two Individuals as Investigation into Illegal Abortion Case in Mataram Continues
The West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda NTB) are continuing their investigation into illegal abortion practices allegedly carried out by a doctor with the initials IKS, also known as dr S. Investigators from Polda NTB have questioned two individuals in connection with the case.
“We have requested statements from two people,” stated the Director of the Protection of Women and Children and Human Trafficking Eradication (Dirres PPA-PPO) of Polda NTB, Kombes Ni Made Pujewati, on Thursday (10/09/2026).
One of the individuals questioned by the police was the Chairman of the Mataram City Child Protection Agency (LPA), Joko Jumadi. Joko was questioned because he served as a source in news reports regarding the alleged illegal abortion practices conducted by dr S.
“We are first clarifying the sources mentioned in the news reports. That was the starting point. We are following up with those who were cited as sources in the reporting,” explained Pujewati.
In addition to conducting interrogations, investigators from the Ditres PPA-PPO Polda NTB are also scrutinising several documents that have been obtained.
Pujewati emphasised that the Ditres PPA-PPO Polda NTB is conducting this investigation based on media reports rather than an official police report.
“There has been no formal complaint or report made to us. We are acting solely on media coverage,” said Pujewati.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Mataram City LPA, Joko Jumadi, did not deny that he had provided clarification to the Polda NTB. “Yes, I provided clarification last Friday (04/09/2026),” he said.
It was previously reported that the Mataram City LPA had reported the alleged illegal abortion practices involving dr S and a private hospital in Mataram to the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) for the West Nusa Tenggara region. As a result, the IDI NTB region decided to revoke dr S’s medical practice licence.
“Regarding the doctor, dr S, we will temporarily revoke his practice licence in Mataram City. Since he practices in two locations, namely RS MM and RS B, we will carry out the revocation in both places,” said the Chairman of the Mataram City IDI, Emirald Isfihan, during a press conference at the IDI NTB Regional Office on Wednesday (09/09/2026).
The alleged illegal abortion practice came to light after the victim’s family reported the matter to the Mataram LPA some time ago. Based on the testimony provided by the victim and her family to the LPA Mataram, the alleged illegal abortion occurred when the victim was under 18 years of age.
Joko noted that the fetus aborted at that time was two months old. The illegal abortion process was allegedly carried out in one of the private hospitals in Mataram.
