Police have detained two TransJakarta corridor 13 bus drivers involved in an accident on the elevated busway — known as the “sky route” — in Cipulir, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. Both drivers are currently undergoing examination.

“The two drivers have been secured at the Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate in Pancoran,” Jakarta Metropolitan Police spokesperson Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto told reporters on Tuesday (24/1/2026).

Budi said the incident could potentially attract charges under Article 310(2) of the Road Traffic and Transport Act. The offender faces up to one year’s imprisonment.

“The suspect could be charged under Article 310(2) of the Road Traffic and Transport Act, as their negligence caused an accident resulting in minor injuries, carrying a maximum sentence of one year’s imprisonment,” Budi said.

Budi noted that the provision could potentially be applied to the driver who fell asleep while operating the vehicle, causing the collision. Police are continuing their investigation.

“That is correct. The examination is still ongoing,” Budi said when asked whether the charge could be applied to the driver identified by the initial Y, who had fallen asleep.

Two TransJakarta buses were involved in the collision on the elevated busway in Cipulir, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta. Dozens of passengers were injured in the incident.

Traffic Law Enforcement Sub-directorate Head Senior Commissioner Ojo Ruslani said the accident occurred at 07.15 local time on Monday (23/2). The collision involved a TransJakarta Bianglala bus driven by a man identified as Y, travelling from Kebayoran towards Cipulir, and a TransJakarta Mayasari Bakti bus driven by A, heading from Cipulir towards Kebayoran.

Preliminary investigations revealed that driver Y admitted to falling asleep at the wheel. As a result, the bus he was operating veered off course, leading to the accident.

“Y admitted to falling asleep while driving, causing his vehicle to cross into the opposing lane, resulting in a head-on collision,” Ojo said in a statement on Monday (23/2).
