Police Question School Bus Driver After Student Dies in South Jakarta Accident
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Police are questioning the driver of a school bus following an accident that killed a tenth-grade student from SMA Negeri 6, identified by the initials NAEP, in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, on Thursday morning. The victim fell from a motorcycle after it reportedly became entangled in a cable and was subsequently run over.
“The driver of the car has been questioned,” said South Jakarta Metro Police Public Relations Head AKP Joko Adi to reporters in Jakarta on Thursday.
Joko stated that the bus and its driver have been secured at the Traffic Accident Unit of the South Jakarta Metro Police. He confirmed that the incident resulted in the death of the student, NAEP, and injuries to the motorcycle driver, identified by the initials DJ.
“However, the motorcycle rider is still receiving treatment at the hospital due to his injuries,” he added.
Police are also working to determine the ownership of the cable that caused the fatal accident. “The traffic accident investigators will handle the case,” he said.
The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. Western Indonesia Time as the motorcycle carrying the victims was passing through the location. The motorcycle’s handlebars are suspected to have snagged on a cable that was hanging low and protruding into the roadway, causing the vehicle to wobble and the riders to fall. The victim was then run over by a passing school bus.
