Jakarta — Central Jakarta Metro Police have conducted intensive questioning of seven witnesses in connection with a caustic acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Disappeared Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS).

“Investigators have questioned seven witnesses with comprehensive and ongoing examinations,” said Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Senior Commissioner Reynold EP Hutagalung during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday.

Hutagalung identified the witnesses as including the reporting officer or Reskrim duty officer from Central Jakarta Metro Police (Ipda DS), an identification team officer (Brigadir RF), the person who retrieved the victim’s helmet (Aipda F), the CCTV owner from a food stall near the crime scene (S), a resident who assisted the victim (A), a resident who helped chase the suspect (D), and an acquaintance of the victim (NAY).

The police chief noted that investigators have collected critical evidence including the condition of the victim’s helmet after it was removed following the caustic attack, the position of the victim’s motorcycle after the attack, and a red-coloured liquid suspected to be a hazardous substance found on a bridge railing.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Police announced that investigators have obtained footage from 86 surveillance camera locations related to the suspected route taken by the perpetrators. Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin stated that these 86 camera points comprise seven from the ETLE system, 27 from the Communications and Information Office, eight from the Transportation Office, and 44 from residential CCTV systems.

“From the 86 surveillance camera locations we analysed, we obtained 2,610 video images with a total duration of 10,320 minutes, requiring substantial time for digital analysis of the CCTV footage,” Imanuddin said.
