Police are currently questioning the driver of a heavy equipment transporter that struck a Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta. “The driver is currently being questioned at the police station. We have recorded the details of the lorry, which became stuck at 1 a.m.,” said Kabagbinopsnal of the Metro Jaya Regional Police Traffic Directorate, Kompol Robby Hefados, to reporters on Tuesday (14/7). Robby explained that his team is still investigating the cause of the incident. The preliminary suspicion is that the accident occurred because the driver did not account for the height of the JPO relative to his cargo. “The investigation is still ongoing. Perhaps the driver did not see the JPO and did not know its height. The vehicle was transporting an excavator, specifically a drilling-type excavator,” he said. Robby stated that his party has coordinated with the Bina Marga Agency to evacuate the lorry stuck under the JPO. He added that officers are continuously managing traffic flow around the scene to alleviate congestion. “Because it involves the JPO, we have to bring in a crane. It is still congested at the moment, so evacuation is not yet possible. The focus remains on traffic management and waiting for the relevant agency,” he said. “The traffic jam currently stretches from Warung Buncit to the Kuningan intersection or the Rasuna Said traffic lights,” he continued. Furthermore, Robby urged motorists to avoid Jalan Kapten P Tendean heading towards Blok M and to use alternative roads. “The public is advised to avoid Jalan Kapten Tendean and use alternative routes, including Jalan HR Rasuna Said, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jalan Kemang Raya, and Jalan Antasari,” he said. A lorry transporting a crane struck the Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten P Tendean, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (14/7) at around 01:28 WIB. According to the Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the incident, which occurred on Tuesday (14/7) at around 00:30 WIB, began when the vehicle with registration number B-9077-UFU was travelling along Jalan Kapten P Tendean. “The driver saw that there was a JPO bridge, but without realising it, the driver was focused on his mobile phone,” the BPBD statement read. It is suspected that the driver was unable to calculate the distance between the transported load and the JPO, causing the crane to become stuck as it passed. “As a result of not accounting for the maximum load height, the unit being transported snagged on the JPO bridge section, causing the JPO to suffer severe damage,” the statement concluded.
