Police Question Karni Ilyas Regarding Jokowi Fake Diploma Allegation Case
Jakarta, Kompas.com - Metro Jaya Regional Police have taken a statement from journalist and television presenter Karni Ilyas regarding allegations of a fake diploma belonging to President Joko Widodo. The examination was carried out on Monday (30/3/2026).
Head of Public Relations for Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, stated that the questioning relates to the television programme hosted by Karni that discussed the issue.
“There was a summons from the investigators regarding a witness in the diploma case as a witness to the event. We are still investigating, and we see that Mr Karni was indeed present as a witness yesterday,” said Budi to reporters on Wednesday (1/4/2026).
According to him, this examination will also be linked to the appropriateness of the content broadcast on mass media.
“We will also coordinate with fellow investigators to review the footage to see if it was aired on a television station. We are still delving into this,” he explained.
In addition to Karni, journalist Aiman Witjaksono is said to be examined on Thursday (2/4/2026).
However, when confirmed, Budi stated that he had not yet received information regarding that summons. He also had not conveyed any further coordination with the Press Council regarding the summoning of media parties.
“We will certainly convey it later. That’s why we haven’t received an update regarding the summoning of Mr A. If there is any, we will definitely inform,” said Budi.
“It’s not about me personally, but about the journalistic broadcast Rakyat Bersuara,” said Aiman when contacted separately.
