The mystery surrounding the death of a family during a glamour camping (glamping) activity at Posong Natural Tourism Park in Temanggung Regency is beginning to unravel. Police suspect the victims died approximately 12 hours before being discovered.

According to Media Indonesia’s monitoring on Friday (29 May), Temanggung Police’s Criminal Investigation Unit has interviewed four witnesses who are operators of Glamping Safari at Posong Natural Tourism Park in Tlahap Village, Kledung Subdistrict. The questioning aims to uncover the sequence of events involving the Semarang Regency family.

The identities of the four victims have been confirmed as Muhamad Ali Munawar, 52; Maghfirah, 43; Bagas Amar Hakiki, 21; and Alvino Evan Hakim, 16. They were residents of Bendosari Hamlet, Kebumen Village, Banyubiru Subdistrict, Semarang Regency.

‘Yes, four witnesses have been questioned regarding the case while awaiting autopsy results and laboratory tests on leftover food,’ said Temanggung Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, AKP I Komang Mahendra Deputra, on Friday (29 May).

Police are currently investigating various possible causes of death. Alongside suspicions of food poisoning from the barbecue (BBQ) the victims brought from home, there is strong indication of carbon monoxide (CO) or carbon dioxide (CO2) poisoning from cooking equipment.

‘We are also examining the possibility of gas poisoning after grilling. The victims were known to have brought their own portable BBQ equipment. We are investigating whether there was a leak or gas buildup inside the tent,’ Komang added.

Regarding the time of death, preliminary examinations showed the victims’ bodies were stiff when found. ‘They are suspected to have died around 12 hours before discovery, possibly during the night or early morning,’ he added.

The family’s passing has deeply saddened relatives and neighbours. Muhamad Ali Munawar was known as a successful trader at Lanang Market in Ambarawa and owner of a wholesale store in Temenggungan, renowned for his generosity.

Yuliana, a relative, recounted that before their trip on Tuesday (26 May), the family had entrusted two goats for Eid al-Adha sacrifice, which fell on Wednesday (27 May).

‘We were shocked. They were kind people, even having recently renovated their parents’ home to allow the extended family to gather comfortably. Before leaving, they said they couldn’t attend the family gathering as they wanted to go on a trip,’ Yuliana recalled.

To date, the victims’ bodies have been evacuated to a hospital, with police awaiting final medical results to confirm the exact cause of the tragedy at the popular tourist destination. (AS/E-4)
