The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) is providing psychological assistance to students of SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, to help them recover from trauma following a bomb threat made against the school. “We are trying to provide assistance to the school because this involves children as the subjects and objects,” said the Director of Women and Children Protection and Trafficking Crime Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Rita Wulandari Wibowo, at the school on Monday. Rita stated that the assistance is expected to restore a sense of security and reduce anxiety among students and parents. Members of the directorate will mingle with the children to provide education and mental strengthening. This activity is also part of law enforcement efforts focused on prevention and providing protection to women, children, and vulnerable groups. “Tomorrow, accompanied by the Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Education Office and the Head of the PPA Unit of the South Jakarta Metro Resort Police Criminal Investigation Unit, I will be present to provide reinforcement to the school, all the children, and also the students’ parents,” she said. Through these efforts, Polda Metro Jaya hopes to strengthen prevention programmes against threats that could potentially cause trauma and disrupt the teaching and learning process within the school environment. The police are investigating the suspected bomb threat at SDN Srengseng Sawah 15 Pagi, which occurred on Monday, the first day of the School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS). Police received a report of the bomb threat at 7.30 a.m. Western Indonesian Time, while students and teachers were holding a ceremony on the first day of MPLS. The threat originated from a private message via WhatsApp received by a first-grade teacher and an administrative staff member. The content of the WhatsApp message stated that the perpetrator threatened to detonate bombs at 11 points in the school and demanded that the school not report the matter to the police. The school subsequently reported the threat to the authorities, who immediately conducted a sweep of the premises.
