The Jakarta Metropolitan Police and Central Jakarta Resort Police provided escort and security for a rally by hundreds of residents from the Aliansi Masyarakat Jakarta who were expressing their aspirations in front of the MPR/DPR RI Building in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday.

Central Jakarta Police Chief Senior Commissioner Reynold E.P. Hutagalung said the police are not only tasked with securing the location, but also with ensuring that the public can exercise their right to express opinions safely.

“We from the Central Jakarta Resort Police are ready to provide a sense of safety and comfort to the public in expressing their aspirations. Express your opinions in an orderly manner; we are ready to serve and escort this activity so that it proceeds safely and conducively,” said Reynold in his statement in Jakarta on Monday.

Reynold explained that the police deployed 633 personnel to secure the activity, prioritising a persuasive and humane approach so that participants could express their aspirations in an orderly manner.

As part of the humane approach, crowd control personnel from the Jakarta Metropolitan Police and Central Jakarta Resort Police unfurled a banner reading “Welcome, Aspiration Fighters, Express Your Opinions in an Orderly Manner, We Are Ready to Serve”.

Reynold said communication between officers and rally participants was continuously maintained to prevent any security disturbances during the activity.

“We prioritise a humane approach. Let us together maintain order, so that aspirations can be conveyed properly without disturbing other members of the public,” he said.

The security operation was led by Object Security Commander Adjunct Senior Commissioner Dhimas Prasetyo, who also serves as Tanah Abang Sub-district Police Chief.

Personnel were stationed at several points to maintain the safety of rally participants and members of the public around the location.

As of Monday afternoon, the crowd was still delivering speeches in turns in front of the MPR/DPR RI Building in a safe and conducive manner.
