Police Provide Psychological Support to Jakarta Confinement Victim

The Human Resources Psychology Team of Metro Jaya Police is providing initial psychological first aid to a victim of confinement in Central Jakarta to ensure an optimal trauma recovery process. The Head of the Psychology Division at the Metro Jaya Police HR Bureau, AKBP Ida Bagus Gede Adi Putra Yadnya, stated that the intervention is being carried out through integrated collaboration with the Metro Jaya Police Medical and Health team since the aftermath of the incident. “We from the psychology team express our deep concern over the incident. As a recovery effort, we are synergising with the Medical and Health team in an integrated team to provide initial psychological assistance to the victim,” he said during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday. He explained that this intervention aims to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the victim’s mental state, while also mapping out the necessary long-term clinical intervention needs. Based on the initial assessment parameters, the Metro Jaya Police HR Bureau confirmed that the victim’s basic social functions are classified as sufficiently good to support daily life activities. “This is indicated through several parameters, including the victim’s ability to respond adequately to information and surrounding environmental situations,” he said. “These clinical findings show that the victim still possesses adaptive capacity in carrying out basic social functions, although ongoing psychological support mechanisms must still be provided periodically,” Adi Putra explained. He also elaborated that theoretically, in the study of trauma psychology, every individual who becomes a victim of crime tends to exhibit various psychological responses. These responses are normal reactions to the abnormal situation faced by the victim, including fear, anxiety, decreased concentration, and diminished trust in the social environment. “This traumatic condition is projected to gradually improve if the victim receives a safe space, adequate social support from family, and consistent psychological assistance,” he said. Metro Jaya Police also confirmed it will continue periodic monitoring of the victim’s mental state development over the next week to ensure comprehensive mental health services, not only for internal police personnel but also for the wider community. Adi Putra also expressed hope that the public and social media can provide a safe space for the recovery process and be wise in responding to this case so as not to add to the victim’s psychological burden.
