Police Provide Guidance to Teenagers Following Viral Fight Video in East Kutai
The Muara Ancalong Sector Police (Polsek) responded swiftly to a viral video of a fight between teenagers in Senyiur Village, Muara Ancalong District, East Kutai Regency, East Kalimantan. On Monday (6/7), the police held a coordination meeting to provide guidance to the residents and the teenagers involved. This persuasive approach was taken through a formal meeting at the Senyiur Village office, attended by village officials, community leaders, neighbourhood chiefs, and the parents of the teenagers involved.
The coordination meeting was led by Muara Ancalong Police Chief, Iptu Erwan Tri Yunanto. Also present were representatives from the Muara Ancalong Military Sub-district Command, the Senyiur Village Secretary, the Village Consultative Body (BPD) Chair, hamlet heads, and neighbourhood chiefs. Erwan stated that the meeting was a step towards providing guidance and clarification regarding the incident that had drawn public attention. “We asked the teenagers involved and their parents to come to the Muara Ancalong Police to provide clarification about the incident. We also gave them advice and a warning so that similar incidents do not happen again, especially in Senyiur Village,” he said.
During the meeting, the village government, together with neighbourhood chiefs and the community of Senyiur Village, agreed that the perpetrators should receive guidance to create a deterrent effect and prevent future occurrences. The village government also expressed its appreciation to the Muara Ancalong Police for their rapid response to the video that had circulated widely on social media.
Separately, Kutai Timur Police Chief, AKBP Fauzan Arianto, urged the public, especially parents, to increase supervision of their children’s activities outside the home. He also reminded teenagers not to be easily provoked into committing acts of violence or creating content that could potentially violate the law just to gain attention on social media. According to Fauzan, the role of family, school, and the community is crucial in supervising and guiding children. If problems arise, he urged that they be resolved amicably and without violence. “We from the Kutai Timur Police also encourage the public to immediately report to the police if they discover potential disturbances to public order or actions that could endanger public safety, so that they can be handled early,” he concluded.
