Police Process Crime Scene to Investigate Cause of Fire Killing BPK Member

Police will conduct a crime scene examination (TKP) to investigate the cause of the fire that killed Haerul Saleh, a member of Audit Board IV of the Republic of Indonesia’s Financial Audit Agency (BPK RI).

The Head of Public Relations at the South Jakarta Metropolitan Police Resort, AKP Joko Adi, stated that the TKP examination will involve the identification team and the forensic laboratory (labfor) team from National Police Headquarters.

“Currently, we are waiting for the identification team and the labfor team from National Police Headquarters. Later, we plan to jointly process the TKP of this incident to determine what caused the fire,” Joko told reporters on Friday (8/5).

Joko revealed that from preliminary investigations, the fire at Haerul’s house occurred on the fourth floor in the work room. According to preliminary information, Joko said, that floor was the victim’s work room.

“So the information is that the fire was on the fourth floor. The fourth floor is information about the victim’s work room,” he said.

Previously, a fire struck a house on Jalan TB Simatupang No 3, Tanjung Barat, Jagakarsa, on Friday (8/5) morning. This incident resulted in the death of BPK RI member IV, Haerul Saleh.

The Head of the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Directorate, Asril Rizal, said the fire is suspected to have originated from remnants of thinner from house renovations.

“It is suspected that the fire came from remnants of thinner from house renovations,” Asril said in his statement.

Asril mentioned that the fire incident was reported to the fire department around 07:53 WIB. A total of 12 fire trucks and 48 personnel were deployed to the location to extinguish the flames.

Asril explained that the extinguishing operation began around 08:07 WIB and was declared complete at 08:46 WIB.
