Police probe fake banknotes case

JAKARTA: The National Police are investigating a possible link between counterfeit banknotes found in East Java and Central Java and a case involving National Intelligence Agency (BIN) officers.

Director of the fraud squad Brig. Gen. Andi Chaeruddin said on Friday that the police had found similarities between the fake notes found in the two provinces and the ones produced by BIN agents.

The main suspect in the case, Brig. Gen. Zyaeri, chief of staff of BIN's special division for the eradication of currency counterfeiting, would be questioned as soon as his health improved, Andi said, explaining that Zyaeri suffers from a heart condition.

Andi added that the police had submitted the case file to the Jakarta Prosecutor's Office on Friday. -- JP
