Police probe erroneous Koran

PALU, Central Sulawesi: Central Sulawesi police are investigating the distribution of allegedly doctored Korans, some of which have been seized by local religious affairs officers for "false contents".

The office found irregularities in the confiscated Koran, including its use of the "Holy Spirit", which exclusively belongs to Christianity and the absence of the crucial Al-Baqarah verses.

"We are investigating whether it was done with malicious intent or was an inadvertent mistake by the publisher," spokesman for the police Ad. Sr. Comr. Rais Adam said on Wednesday.

The provincial religious affairs agency found one of erroneous Korans for the first time six months ago at a Palu street market, and discovered two others recently in the West Palu area.

Sectarian conflict between Muslims and Christians shook the province between 2000 and 2001. -- Antara
