Police probe dismemberment case

Abdul Khalik, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Police are looking for three people suspected in the dismemberment of Julius Alexander Matital, 20, whose head and legs were found on Monday afternoon in the Kebon Nanas cemetery in East Jakarta.

East Jakarta Police chief Sr. Comr. Anang Iskandar said officers had received physical descriptions of the suspects from relatives of Julius.

"Several members of Julius' family said that they saw through a window Julius being taken away by three men. We are now searching for the men. Hopefully, we can capture them as soon as possible," he told The Jakarta Post.

Two Cipinang residents made the grisly discovery of the body parts on Monday morning in the cemetery in Cipinang Besar Selatan.

Doctors who performed an autopsy at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital in Central Jakarta identified the victim as 20-year-old Julius Alexander Matital, a resident of North Bekasi, West Java.

He was employed in a handicraft home industry in Bekasi.

Police searching the cemetery with dogs also discovered an axe that could have been used in the dismemberment.

Anang said officers had questioned eight witnesses, most relatives of Julius.

"We have not yet found a possible motive for the crime," he said.
