Police Prioritise Humanist Approach in Managing Farmers' Protest
Central Jakarta Metro Police prioritised humanist actions while securing the demonstration by the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Farmers Union (DPP SPI) in front of the MPR/DPR RI Building, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday (14/9).
Beyond merely securing the area, the Central Jakarta Metro Police also interacted directly with the protesters, distributing snacks and mineral water. This simple gesture was part of an effort to build effective communication between the police and the public during the expression of aspirations.
A total of 448 personnel were deployed for the security operation. Officers were stationed to maintain order around the location, assist in the smooth flow of public activities, and ensure that protesters had the space to convey their aspirations safely and orderly.
The Chief of Central Jakarta Metro Police, Kombes Reynold EP Hutagalung, stated that the security services prioritised a persuasive and humanist approach while respecting the public’s right to express their opinions.
“Officers are present to ensure that the community can convey their aspirations safely and orderly. We prioritise good communication and a humanist approach so that the activity can proceed comfortably, both for the protesters and the general public,” said Reynold.
According to him, communication between officers and protesters is a vital component in maintaining a peaceful atmosphere. The distribution of food and drinking water was one form of care shown by officers towards the participants who had been at the location since the start of the activity.
The Head of Public Relations for the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Budi Hermanto, also expressed appreciation for the maturity of the protesters, who maintained order throughout the demonstration.
“Through cool dialogue and mutual respect, the space in front of the people’s representatives’ building can be jointly maintained as a democratic space that is safe, peaceful, and inclusive for all parties,” said Budi.
