Police Prevent Brawl in Kupang, 24 Youth Detained
Police prevented a brawl on Jalan Suratim, Oesapa Village, Kelapa Lima District, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara. A total of 24 youth were detained in the operation.
“The brawl involved dozens of youth and escalated due to stone-throwing and the use of arrows. However, we successfully prevented the large-scale brawl before any casualties occurred,” said Chief of Samapta at Kupang City Police Station, AKP Stevenson Bessie, on Sunday (15 March 2026).
Stevenson said the brawl was prevented in the early hours of Sunday. It began when he received information through the 110 emergency call centre about a group of people beginning to clash in the Oesapa area.
After receiving the report, police immediately mobilised to the location. Police then combed the area and arrested 24 youth involved in the brawl. The dozens of youth were subsequently brought to Kupang City Police Station for intensive questioning and counselling.
“For any parties who feel aggrieved or have become victims, we urge them to immediately file a police report so that it can be followed up with further legal proceedings,” explained Stevenson.
According to him, the situation at the location became peaceful around 06:24 Wita. Meanwhile, the dozens of youth were also escorted home to their respective residences under close supervision.
“In accordance with the Police Station Commander’s directive, we not only enforce the law but also ensure that the community’s psychological condition returns to calm. After ensuring the location was safe, we resumed our positions at our respective posts,” concluded Stevenson.
