Police Prepare Traffic Engineering Measures Including One-Way Systems and Contraflow for Eid 2026 Return Exodus
Jakarta — National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo confirmed that the Indonesian National Police (Polri) will continue implementing traffic engineering strategies during the 2026 Eid holiday return exodus periods.
According to Sigit, traffic engineering strategies remain effective for managing potential traffic congestion caused by increased vehicle volumes during the outbound and return journeys for Eid al-Fitr.
“We will continue to implement traffic engineering strategies based on lessons from previous experiences,” said Sigit whilst chairing a multi-sector coordination meeting regarding preparations for Operation Ketupat at the PTIK building in South Jakarta on Monday (2 March 2026).
The traffic engineering measures to be implemented during the 2026 Eid exodus and return journeys include one-way systems, contraflow, management of rest areas, and restrictions on three-axle vehicles.
“Public advisories and suspension of traffic fines, delayed crossing systems in transit areas, and traffic diversions are certainly among the engineering measures we will implement,” Sigit stated.
Meanwhile, Sigit emphasised that during the previous year’s holiday exodus and return, approximately 137 trillion rupiah circulated from urban centres to regional areas. It is hoped that this year will see an increase to drive economic growth in communities.
“Naturally, we hope that the security implementation of Operation Ketupat in 2026 will be maximally successful so that the multiplier effect on regional economies will also be significantly impactful,” Sigit concluded.
