Students from various universities and civil society groups will stage protests in Jakarta on Monday afternoon (4/5) to commemorate National Education Day (Hardiknas) 2026.

There are at least three main demonstration points this afternoon. The police are deploying up to 3,225 combined personnel to secure the protest action organised by students from various higher education institutions and community elements.

The three demonstration points are in front of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemendiktiristek) and/or the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in the Senayan area, in front of the DPR building also in the Senayan area, and at the palace, permitted only in the South Medan Merdeka area, Central Jakarta.

More than 3,000 officers are being deployed by Polda Metro Jaya, with traffic engineering prepared to maintain security and the smooth running of the protest action at these three points.

Head of Public Relations for Polda Metro Jaya, Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, stated that traffic engineering will be applied situationally based on the development of the crowd on the ground.

“We urge road users to pay attention to traffic conditions and adjust their journeys, especially around the Monas area, Patung Kuda, Medan Merdeka Street, DPR/MPR RI, Gatot Subroto, and areas around the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology,” said Budi in his statement, quoted from Antara.

Commissioner Budi also asked drivers to follow the directions of officers on the ground. Traffic officers will assist in clearing congestion if there is an increase in crowd activity.

“Please follow the officers’ directions. Traffic engineering is situational, adapting to the dynamics on the ground,” he said.

He explained that for security, Polda Metro Jaya is deploying 3,545 officers to the three protest action points.

“Polda Metro Jaya is preparing 3,545 personnel. This number consists of 3,351 personnel from Polda Metro Jaya units, 176 personnel from Polres units, and 18 personnel from service heads (Kayan) and control officers (Padal),” he said.

In addition, the event is supported by 250 Sabuk Kamtibmas personnel. They are placed at several points to ensure that the opinion-expressing activities run safely, orderly, smoothly, and conducive.

Budi said that they will prioritise a humane and persuasive approach in serving the protest crowd. Personnel are also prepared to manage traffic, guard objects, provide warnings, and anticipate potential public order disturbances.

“We emphasise to all personnel to act persuasively and humanely. The presence of Polri is to ensure that the public can express their aspirations safely, without disrupting public order,” he stated.

He also urged the protest crowd to express their opinions in an orderly and peaceful manner, and for participants not to bring dangerous objects or be easily provoked.

According to him, expressing opinions in public is a right of citizens protected by law, but its implementation must still consider the safety, order, and comfort of other members of the public.

“In principle, Polda Metro Jaya is present to serve. We hope that the Hardiknas 2026 action runs safely and orderly, and that aspirations can be conveyed well,” said Budi.

The protest action points from BEM SI and Kerakyatan as well as the Civil Society Coalition are held in front of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology RI, scheduled at 11:00 WIB.

There is also a protest action from the Executive Student Council of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta (DEMA UIN) and several mass elements in the South Medan Merdeka Street area or also known as the Patung Kuda point in Gambir Ward, Central Jakarta, at 10:00 WIB.

In addition, a protest is being held by the Executive Body of Students of Indraprasta PGRI University (BEM Unindra) in front of the MPR/DPR building at 11:00 WIB.
