Police Prepare People-Centred Services and Medical Support for Protests
Jakarta (ANTARA) – The National Police (Polri) are preparing people-centred services and medical support to oversee demonstrations taking place at various locations across Indonesia, including Bundaran HI in Central Jakarta, on Wednesday.
Polri Public Relations Division head Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir said the force would prioritise a humane and professional approach in serving members of the public expressing their opinions in public.
“We are ensuring that all personnel on duty understand procedures, respect the public’s rights and continue to prioritise everyone’s safety,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Isir said the number of personnel deployed would be adjusted to the needs and specific circumstances in each area. Each regional police force has the authority to determine staffing levels based on an assessment of conditions on the ground and service requirements.
For the operation, Polri is optimising its operational, training and oversight functions, as well as providing health and medical support.
Isir said medical assistance would be available to both demonstrators and officers on duty. If any demonstrators require medical attention, Polri’s medical services are ready to provide assistance according to needs on the ground.
“Polri is here to provide services so that the expression of opinions can take place safely and comfortably, while respecting everyone’s rights,” he said.
He also called on all sections of the public to help maintain security and public order so that demonstrations could proceed peacefully, with dialogue, mutual respect and compliance with applicable regulations.
“We urge everyone to express their aspirations peacefully, orderly and responsibly,” he said.
