Police prepare parking areas for May Day participants at Monas

Combined task forces have prepared several parking areas for participants in the International Labour Day or May Day celebrations, which will be centred in the Monas area, Gambir sub-district, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/5). “For May Day participants from West Java and Bekasi, we have prepared parking areas in the JIExpo Kemayoran area and along Jalan Benyamin Sueb,” said the Director of Traffic (Dirlantas) of Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Komarudin, in Jakarta on Thursday. According to him, several roads around Jalan Benyamin Sueb will be used as parking areas for participants arriving from the West Java area. He stated that if that area is insufficient, there are reserve parking areas in North Jakarta and around Ancol. “However, Ancol cannot be maximised considering it’s a holiday, there might also be many visitors heading to Ancol,” he said. Then, for participants arriving from Central Java and East Java, vehicle parking areas will be prepared in the Aldiron Pancoran area. “Later, please drop off at Monas, then we will park the empty vehicles in Pancoran,” he said. For the masses from Banten, Lampung, Tangerang and surroundings, parking areas are prepared around GBK. “Starting from the East Parking area, APEC, then the ring road can also be used. And additionally, around Jalan Asia Afrika in the gate one basin,” said Komarudin. Officers have also prepared parking areas for participants arriving by motorbike. According to Komarudin, the State Secretariat has issued a circular to 65 ministries and agencies located around Monas so that their parking areas can be used by participants. “There are around 20,000 participants who will use two-wheeled vehicles and we have prepared parking areas for them, although perhaps not all at once,” he said. For motorbike parking areas, the locations are spread from City Hall, National Library, Graha Pertamina and several ministry-agency offices that have been given the circular. Ditlantas Metro Jaya Police has also coordinated with the coordinators of the May Day participant federations coming to Monas by motorbike. According to him, all participants, whether using two wheels or buses, will be escorted properly. “We are also anticipating masses outside of workers because information indicates there are five famous band groups that will fill the event, each possibly having their own fans,” he said. Previously, the Metro Jaya Police Traffic Directorate deployed 1,793 personnel to secure the International Labour Day or May Day implementation, which is centred in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/5). The total number of workers who will participate in the International Labour Day implementation in the Monas area reaches 200,000 people and it is estimated that there will be 4,000 bus units entering Jakarta for the Labour Day commemoration tomorrow. “Based on the latest data we received, more than 200,000 workers will head to Monas and there are several groups that may carry out activities at several points in Jakarta,” he said.
