Police Prepare Medical Support for Public Demonstrations
Police forces across all regional police commands held simultaneous readiness briefings ahead of public demonstrations taking place today. The measure is intended to ensure officers are prepared to assist and protect members of the public expressing their views.
National Police Public Relations Division chief Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir said the briefings were intended to ensure that officers in the field understood their duties when serving people wishing to voice their aspirations.
“The National Police are prioritising a humane and professional approach in serving members of the public who express their views in public. We are ensuring that all officers on duty understand procedures, respect people’s rights and continue to prioritise everyone’s safety,” Isir said in a statement on Wednesday (29 October 2026).
On the number of officers deployed, Isir said that staffing would be adjusted to the needs and circumstances in each area. Each regional police command has been authorised to assess the situation and determine the number of personnel required based on local conditions and the potential escalation on the ground.
For operations in the field, the National Police are integrating operational, guidance and oversight functions, as well as medical readiness. The integration is intended to ensure that security measures are proportionate, procedurally compliant and focused on public safety.
Medical facilities will also be on standby at demonstration sites. Medical teams will be available not only to security personnel but also to demonstrators who may need medical assistance.
“We urge everyone to express their views peacefully, in an orderly and responsible manner. The National Police are here to provide a service so that people can express their views safely and comfortably, while respecting everyone’s rights,” Isir said.
He also called on the public to work together to maintain public security and order.
“The National Police call on all sections of society to work together to maintain security and public order, so that demonstrations can take place peacefully, with dialogue, mutual respect and compliance with the rules in force,” Isir concluded.
