Police posts built for New Year's check
JAKARTA: City Police erected 41 police posts in strategic places across the capital to regulate traffic during the New Year's Eve celebration as a measure to uphold security.
"Those posts are meant to take sterner measures against those violating traffic regulation and thus harm their own safety or public safety during the celebration," City Police Traffic Division Chief Sr. Comr. Sulistyo Ishak told reporters over the weekend.
Violations which are a common sight during New Year's Eve are include dozens of revelers in the back of open trucks or on vehicle roofs.
Most of the posts will be at strategic places including the Senayan sports stadium, the Semanggi flyover, the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle, Harmoni and Ancol Dreamland Park, in addition to intersections near the Coca Cola plant in North Jakarta, Jl. Pramuka, Kemayoran, Gunung Sahari, Pulo Gadung industrial estate.
Police will deploy two thirds of its total forces, comprising over than 15,000 police officers to secure the celebration across the city.--JP
