Police plant garlic simultaneously in 14 regional commands to support self-sufficiency

The Indonesian National Police (Polri) carried out simultaneous garlic planting across 14 regional police commands (Polda) on Wednesday as part of its support for accelerating national garlic self-sufficiency. The planting was conducted on 279.5 hectares spread across 59 district police commands (Polres), involving 110 farmer groups and 2,174 farmers. From this area, the potential harvest is estimated to reach 2,795 tonnes.

The Polda with the largest planting area is West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police, with 120 hectares and a production potential of 1,200 tonnes. South Sumatra Regional Police planted on 81 hectares with a potential yield of 810 tonnes, followed by West Java Regional Police on 44.58 hectares with a production potential of 445.8 tonnes.

Planting was also carried out in the jurisdictions of Central Java, Lampung, North Sumatra, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), East Java, West Sumatra, Aceh, Bengkulu, Bali, South Sulawesi, and Jambi regional police commands. Meanwhile, North Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, and Central Sulawesi regional police will carry out planting in September and October 2026, adjusting to the planting season and weather conditions.

Under the programme, the police received a land target of 4,840 hectares from the Ministry of Agriculture. To date, 2,593.1 hectares, or around 54 per cent, have been verified and are spread across 17 regional police commands and 66 district police commands. Of that amount, 927.6 hectares have been planted, while 1,665.6 hectares are still in the preparation stage.

Furthermore, the police also held a garlic harvest festival on 105 hectares in Sembalun District, East Lombok Regency, NTB, on Wednesday. The activity involved nine farmer groups with 287 farmers and is projected to produce 1,050 tonnes of garlic.

Upstream strengthening was also carried out through the handover of agricultural machinery and equipment assistance. Through this programme, it is hoped that productivity will increase while accelerating the realisation of national garlic independence.
