Police plan to quiz Nurdin Halid Tuesday

SEMARANG: Police are to question Confederation of Primary Cooperatives Association head Nurdin Halid on Tuesday to investigate his possible involvement in a suger smuggling ring.

National Police special economic crimes unit head Brig. Gen. Samuel Ismoko said in Semarang his office had sent the summons letter to Nurdin on Friday night.

Samuel said a private company had offered to buy the illegal sugar and convert it into ethanol.

He said the company's proposal could be a better alternative to throwing the commodity into the sea. "However, the idea needs to be further discussed," he said. --JP
