Police Partner with Pegadaian to Verify Gold Bars from Ex-Jampidsus Febrie

The Indonesian National Police have partnered with state-owned pawnbroker PT Pegadaian to verify the purity of 74 kilograms of gold bars seized in a corruption case involving former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah. The gold bars were confiscated from a house in the Sentul area of Bogor, West Java, which Febrie admitted was his private residence. “Today, investigators from the Joint Investigation team, along with prosecutors from the Attorney General’s Office and Pegadaian, will test the evidence, specifically the 74 gold bars found, which equate to 74 kilograms,” said Polda Metro Jaya Head of Public Relations, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, to reporters on Monday (13/7).

Rubika Giovani Malewa, Head of the Operational Department at PT Pegadaian’s G-Lab, stated that an initial inspection had already been conducted. She explained that the team would verify the authenticity and weight of the gold bars. “From our side, PT Pegadaian will conduct technical testing on the evidence, which we have initially checked as 74 bars, each weighing approximately 1 kilogram,” she said. Rubika elaborated that the testing process involves identifying the authenticity first, followed by determining the qualification, specifically the purity and the weight.

Previously, the Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) officially transferred the handling of three cases of alleged corruption and money laundering (TPPU) to the Attorney General’s Office. The transfer occurred after investigators named two suspects: Don Ritto, a private sector individual, and Febrie Adriansyah, the former Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes. Kortastipidkor Chief Inspector General Totok Suharyanto stated that the transfer was the result of an agreement between the Police and the Attorney General’s Office as a form of synergy in handling the case. Totok explained that during the investigation, 15 witnesses and two experts were examined, and searches were conducted at several locations that have since been made public. As a follow-up, Head of Operations at Kortastipidkor, Commissioner Ahmad Yusuf, will also hand over all evidence related to the case to the Attorney General’s Office. “All administrative records of the investigation along with the evidence will be handed over to the Attorney General’s Office in stages for further action,” he told reporters, as quoted on Monday (13/7).
