The West Java Regional Police are involving psychiatric experts to examine the mental condition of Taufik Hidayat, the suspect in the case of the confinement and abuse of a woman with the initials YTR (29). The examination is being conducted to complete the investigation process. West Java Police Chief Inspector General Rudi Setiawan stated that the examination is necessary to obtain an initial picture of the suspect’s psychological state after he allegedly held and tortured the victim for three years. “We are also involving several experts, psychiatric experts, so that we have initial data on the suspect’s mental condition,” Rudi said in Bandung on Wednesday. According to him, the acts allegedly committed by the suspect against the victim were unnatural and beyond the limits of normal behaviour towards a partner. “Because what was done, as you all know, is something unnatural, something outside the normal behaviour of someone towards their lover, which we can say is excessively sadistic,” he said. In addition to the psychiatric evaluation, the West Java Police have also placed Taufik Hidayat in a special isolation cell during the legal process.
